If a tattoo on my neck is not discrete in any way but visible, can I still join the military?

Deidre . asked:

I have a tattoo of my nieces name in slightly thick lettering on the right side of my neck that is visible from the front and continues to the back below my earlobe. From pictures of Class A uniforms, I’ve noticed that it might still be visible while wearing them. I want to enter the marines more than anything. Is this seriously going to be the only thing that stops me from entering?

As long as the tattoo is not racist or shows a disregard for the united states you should be fine.

I sure hope not. We need to allow everyone who wants to join, the chance to join.

If it can be seen past your collar, than unfortunately, yes, it will prevent you from being able to join. But, hey, the military is a lifestyle. Get the tattoo removed and be set for the rest of your life.

You can in the Army, you just need a waver. As long as it’s not foul or gang related. In the Marines I doubt it.
